Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, and professionally referred to as Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the first female artist to sign to J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. The label released her first EP, Pho, in October 2016, and she was able to gain recognition. Her first album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading music on the internet in 2012, when she released her first mixtape Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in 2013. The year 2014 saw her release more music via the Internet including Bound. In 2015, she was featured on Omen's Elephant Eyes album on Sweat it out on July 21st. J. Cole asked her to collaborate with him for Rihanna's references. Then, later in the season, the music was played all over Dreamville. The 8th of December was the day she announced that she was contracted to Dreamville Records. She was featured on the album collaboratively titled Revenge of the Dreamers II featuring the track Backseat Cozz. The 21st of October, 2016, her EP Pho was released. Ari Lennox was a guest on J. Cole's Change and also performed as part of her own 4 Your Eyez Only Tour as an opening performance. Also, she was featured on the songs Nothing but the Best by EarthGang as well as Icarus with Bas, her labelmates. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on July 16, 2018. A music video was later released in September. On November 9, she released two additional singles, 40 Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. Then, in November 2013, she released her debut album No One as well as Pedigree. She then appeared as a guest on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on the track Shea Butter Baby on November 16, and it was released as a single in February 2019 to accompany her debut album with the same title. The track was accompanied by a music video on February 20 2019, and it surpassed the milestone of 3 million views via YouTube within its first seven days. As a support act, she toured with 6LACK during December 2018 on their From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
